Prototypes & Master Model Service
Ideas In 3D provides a 3D master model service for those customers who don't have a master model already. We can create the master model for the purpose of digitizing and ultimately creating data in the form of triangles or surfaces or solids.These files can now be modified, mirrored or scaled to any size and programmed for CNC machining or SLA.
A 2D screen rendering has no feel or size reference and can be easily misinterpreted by your customer. A 3D model leaves no room for misunderstanding.
Aluminum Core / Capacity
If the aluminium cores and cavities are a little complex, we love this so much that we will even machine them for you, if you like.Ideas in 3D has over 30 years moldmaking experience. We no longer build complete molds. We now specialize in digitizing solutions for free form cavities that are creating problems for you. We will digitize your problem area, providing you with a CAD file that you can use.
We also feel that it's not really the digitizing that you need, but the end result that 3D digitizing can provide. We can provide you with finished CNC machined cores & cavities or punch & die sets ready to mount in your base if you don't happen to care for machining.

G - Codes
We can also generate G-Code from Digitized Point Clouds. No need for surfaces or solids.If what you have is a complex shaped part or mold that needs to be duplicated by CNC machining and you have no prints or CAD information to do this job, we have a relatively simple and inexpensive solution to this situation.
By digitizing what you have in a particular proprietary manner, we can supply you with the CNC G-code for your particular CNC machine and controller.
With this process, there is no need for a CAD file or Surfaces or Solid model.
We can give you G-code by creating very accurate CNC programs utilizing the digitized point cloud information using any size or type milling tool. We will also supply with the tool path programs, a complete cutter schedule and block orientation information.
We will also guarantee all our tool paths or your money back plus we will pay for your block of material if necessary.
This digitizing process is what we do best.
Parting Lines
Mold parting lines need to be repaired and re-sharpened periodically for the proper shutting off of plastic injection molds.Mold parting line needs to be repaired and re-contoured periodically.
If you have a multi-cavity mold, or need to accurately reproduce the parting line, Ideas in 3D can help.
If the masters are not available, we will digitize the cavity, including the problem areas.
Using our proprietary R.E.A.D. Digitizing machine that can accurately capture edge data, we will create CAD files of both halves of the mold. We then will overlay the parting line as defined in the original mold or drawings.
Now that we have a CAD file, we can go into the CAD drawing and fix the parting line if necessary in the CAD file. We can then provide you with a CAM or CAD file which you can use to accurately re-sharpen the parting line.
Parting Planes
Parting Planes are the necessary surfaces that join the parting line of the part that makes up the mold that surrounds the part.Most people, when thinking of a mold, seem to only be concerned about the core and cavity that directly forms the part. They seem to think that the Parting Planes that surrounds the part are either free and of no concern.
The Parting Plane surfaces are often times more complex than the part surfaces themselves.
These surfaces oftentimes need to be sculpted in a soft solid material. Then these surfaces are Digitized and traced into the computer for tool path developing.
